The matched run: 10 by 14 inch plastic plates, most in multiples

The run's 32 lines are all plastic, all 10 by 14 inches and all counted, 184 signs in total. Their numbers fall between S-2385 and S-2454, but the run is only the lines in the table below. The numbers in between also hold other plates, among them parking, exit, fire, high voltage and dock signs, most on other category pages, and plant floor plates in no category, such as S-2423 Caution Open Pit (10), S-2389 Danger Falling Material (9) and S-2415 Caution Do Not Touch Switches (8), which the stock book search on the home page finds by number. For one plate on every machine or down a whole aisle, the run has the depth: S-2401 Notice Report Inj to Supervisor has 22 in the book, S-2395 Think Keep Plant Safe/Clean 18, S-2399 Danger Watch Dog On Patrol and S-2407 Caution Not Use On Elec Fires 10 each, and S-2398 Danger Moving Machinery and S-2426 Safety + Health Protection On Job 9 each.

The book writes several of these in shorthand, such as Replace Guard B4 Using and Report Unsafe Cond Foreman, so read the face in the line's photo before a wording goes into a script. It gives 14"w x 10"t or 10"w x 14"t for part of the run and only 10"x14" or 14"x10" for the rest, so the photo, or the front office, settles whether one of those plates reads tall or wide before a wall is planned around it.

Header words and colors for planning a wall

On the 35 Caution, 28 Danger, 13 Notice and 11 Think lines listed here, the header word mostly sets the colors: Caution in black and yellow, Danger in red, black and white, Notice in blue and white and Think in green, white and black, and the page's 2 Warning plates, S-0540 and S-2969, are black and orange. Where the book gives a count, the lines here under those four headers add up to 92 Caution signs, 51 Danger, 30 Think and 29 Notice.

Exceptions to plan around: S-2417, a yellow and black Think; S-2352, a white, yellow and black Danger with the international symbol; S-1536, a red and white Danger; S-1722, a Danger in white with black as far as the book's line goes; S-0651, a green and white Notice; S-1100, a black, yellow and white Caution; and S-0991, a black and white Caution on wood. The book's color words are cut off on S-0607, S-0840, S-1212, S-2017, S-2353 and S-2973 and stop after blue on S-0652 and S-0686, so check those photos.

Wordings that come in both plastic and metal include Caution Hazardous Area Authorized Personnel Only (S-2416 in plastic, S-3137 in metal) and Think Safety Is Everyone's Job (S-0985 in plastic at 20 by 14 inches, S-1005 in metal at 28 by 20), so one wording can hang in plastic and in metal on the same wall.

Days-without-an-accident boards

Each of EC's 6 days-without-an-accident boards leaves a blank for the count, and the wording sets the place: S-0083, S-0083A and S-0312 count days for a department, S-0465 for a plant, S-2169 for a laboratory without a fatal accident, and S-0236 days without a lost time injury. S-0083 and S-0083A match at 20"w x 28"t in metal, white with pale green and white with dark green.

S-2169 is the one board with a count in the book, 1, and S-1496 counts down instead: 19__ Count Down To Safety, 2 sided, so check its face against the year the story is set. No line here lists numbers or cards for the blanks, so ask the front office how a board takes its number before the art department plans one.

Machine plates: automatic start, guards and moving machinery

Most machine warnings here come in several wordings, so neighboring machines need not carry identical plates. Automatic start runs from S-0031 This Unit and S-0090 This Equipment to S-0806 This Machine Starts Automatically (2) and S-0607 It May Start At Any Time; guards from S-0170 to the run's S-2412 (8) and S-2405 (7); stopping for service from S-0059, orange and black in a wooden frame, to S-0208 Turn Off Main Switch. Single wordings include S-0498 Emergency Stop and the hydraulic oil plate S-1212. S-0057 Caution High Pressure Air Nozzle, black and yellow metal at 14"w x 10"t, shares its book text word for word with S-0935, a stock number this page does not list, so name both when asking for that plate.

The Moving Machinery wording comes as a Danger plate in plastic, S-2398 (9), and in metal, S-2068, both 14"w x 10"t; as Danger Moving Machinery Do Not Enter on S-2968; as an orange and black Warning on S-2969; and as a 16"w x 30"t foamcore Danger sign with the international symbol, S-2352. S-2017, Danger Fabricating/Turning Machines/Robots, is the one robots sign, listed with examples of 4 different industrial acciden..., where its book line stops.

Eye, ear and welding bay signs

Eye Protection Must Be Worn In This Area comes three ways in the table below: as a Danger plate, S-0789 (6), a Caution plate, S-2970, and a Caution plate in English with a Chinese translation, S-2973, which the Asian Signs page shows too. Ear Protection Must Be Worn In This Area stands tall in that table at 14"w x 20"t on S-0021 (2) and runs wide in metal at 18"w x 12"t on S-2972 (2), and S-2353 (4) is the fall protection harness sign. For a louder shop, EC's book holds more ear and hearing protection plates that no category page lists, in Caution, Danger and Notice wordings, among them S-0209 in metal at 14"w x 10"t, S-0256 Danger Ear Protection Required In This Area and S-0665 Notice Hearing Protection Must Be Worn In This Area.

Gas cylinder plates

A cylinder cage takes a matched pair, S-0623 Empty Cylinders and S-0624 Full Cylinders, blue and white metal at 14"w x 10"t, with S-0625 Cylinders Must Be Chained At All Times at the same size and S-0619 Danger Compressed Gas. The run adds S-2408 Chain Cylinder Up + Cap (6), and for the storage area beside the cage, S-2397 Danger Acid (8) and S-2439 Danger Gasoline (7).

Plant floor: clearance, gates and restricted areas

Low Headroom, S-2414 (8), and Keep From Under Crane, S-2402 (5), lead the overhead warnings here, and they sit in the run above with S-2386 No Overhead Clearance and S-2409 Close Clearance. S-0727 Stay Alert Don't Get Hurt and S-0983 Be Alert Don't Get Hurt differ by one word and everything else: green and white metal at 10"w x 8"t against red, yellow and white plastic at 20"w x 14"t. S-2008, Work Safely Today Tomorrow Always, is cardboard at 35"w x 14"t.

The picture posters filed here are S-0939A with a turtle, in an aluminum frame (2 in the book), S-0939B with a gorilla and a caveman, and S-1353 with a man waving. Notices to employees and the hiring signs

Injury reporting comes in several wordings, from the run's S-2401 Report Inj to Supervisor to S-0922 Every Injury However Slight Must Be Reported Immediately. S-2028A, S-2028B and S-2028C read the same in the book up to where they are cut off, so check their photos or ask which is which; S-0652 and S-0686, blue metal notices, carry the same wording in the book but for a typo, so check their photos too.
