Street repair and road work signs for rent: warning signs, detours and stands

Warning signs by face size: 24, 30, 36 and 48 inches

Read a line such as S-0405, 41"w x 41"t (30"x30" square), from the outside in: the first two figures are about the span from one corner to the opposite one with the square turned up on a point, and the parentheses give the face. That outer span runs 32, 41, 49 and 65 inches across the four faces, the figure to frame a shot around. S-1062 (30x30, no unit mark), S-2507 and S-1714 give the square alone and leave it open whether they stand square or on a point.

In the two tables below, the 30 inch faces hold 9 signs on 8 lines, a different legend on each, three of them plastic (S-0405, S-0483, S-2089). The 36 inch faces hold 12 signs on 7 lines, 5 of them Road Construction Ahead on S-0947, and the 48 inch faces 6 signs on 4 lines, 3 of them Caution on S-1618. The 24 inch rung is Open Trench alone, 3 on S-0402. The fabric and reflector signs on X frames, a few of which keep a 36 or 48 inch figure in their cut-off lines, are counted in their own table further down. In both face tables, all but S-1167 and S-2507 are black and orange in the book's words, and only S-2091 is marked reflective.

Legends that repeat across sizes and builds

Most sign lines here are one or two deep, and where a legend runs across several lines, the book describes each line differently, by size, build, color or a printed arrow; S-0407 and S-1162, both 36 by 12 inch black and orange metal Detour plates, differ only by the arrow that S-1162's line prints. So a pair that has to match on camera comes from one line that holds two or more, or from two lines the front office confirms are alike. Road Construction Ahead is 10 signs on 4 lines: 5 metal 36 inch faces (S-0947), a 48 inch orange face (S-2091), a 48 inch yellow one (S-1167) and 3 polyurethane reflector signs on X frames (S-2080). Men Working and its symbol come to 10 signs on 5 of the lines here, most of them on X frames, S-1375 with the words and S-1431 with the symbol, and the rest single faces at 30 and 36 inches.

Caution is on 4 of the faces above, at 36 and 48 inches (S-1617, S-1618), Road Work Ahead comes in metal (S-1474) and in fabric (S-2217), and Detour wording runs to 13 pieces on 9 lines in these tables: the plates below plus Detour Ahead in 48 inch metal (S-1166) and in fabric on X frames (S-1885, S-2164). Workers and End Construction each come in two plate sizes, listed with the plates below. For a lane closure, the tables list Left Lane Closed Ahead (S-1061), One Lane Road Ahead (S-1060) and Right Lane Closed Ahead (S-2218, on an X frame); for a flagman, S-0680 and S-0946. The Road Closed signs themselves, black and white, are filed under Street Signs, with a yellow Detour Left arrow and Sidewalk Closed Use Other Side.

Fabric and reflector signs on X frames

Street Repair Signs files 7 X frame lines, 15 signs, all of them fabric except S-1375 and S-2080, which are polyurethane reflector material. Each lists an X frame, and all but S-2080, whose line breaks off at "universal mounti...", name a mounting bracket. The book cuts every one of these lines off, and the table prints only what survives: four read 65"w x 65"t, the overall size of the 48 inch metal faces; S-1885 gives 36"x36"; S-2218 keeps only its 65 inch width; and S-2080 keeps no size at all. None of what survives names a color. One more X frame sign, S-0063, a 48 by 48 inch fabric Men Working sign with a mounting bracket, sits outside this table and its count; search the stock book from the home page to find it.

The size of S-2080 and S-2218, the colors, and which stand, if any, goes with these signs are front office questions, since what survives of the lines names no stand.

Detour plates and arrows, as the book marks them

S-1162 (DETOUR>) and S-2366 (Detour --->) point right in the book, S-1161 (^ Detour) points up, for straight ahead, and S-1164 reads <Detour. S-0407 and S-1067 read Detour with no arrow in the line, which leaves open whether either plate carries one. S-0434 and S-1283 are arrows with no word, both printed ----->, and the photo cards below shorten both to Sign, as they shorten S-2366 to Sign-Detour. A route that turns more than once needs a plate per turn, and the book's marks are shorthand, so have the front office confirm which way each plate points; of the Detour plates in this table, the book lists 2 each of S-0407, S-1161 and S-1162 and 1 of the rest.

The book writes S-1164's size as 36' x 12", a foot mark on the width where S-1162 reads 36" x 12", so have the front office confirm its size and its arrow together.

Plates for the work zone: Workers, End Construction, speed and fines

Workers comes at 36 by 18 inches (S-1068) and 24 by 12 (S-1266), and End Construction, the plate that tells a driver the zone is over, at 48 by 18 (S-1069) and 36 by 18 (S-2135). S-2082 is one 24 inch square sign printed on both sides, Road Work Speed Limit 25 and End 25 Speed Limit, so the side turned to camera decides which end of the slow zone it plays. S-2131, Traffic Fines Doubled In Construction Zones, is 72 by 36 inches with no material named, and S-1897, Survey Party, an 18 inch square with 2 flat brackets on the back.

Sign stands and the flag stand

C-0546, the construction sign stand, is steel and orange, 3 feet wide and 6 feet tall on two removable 5 foot feet; EC lists 7. F-0139, an orange metal flag and sign stand, has no count, and its line asks the renter to specify the number of flags, so put that number on the hold list. Both also appear in Sign Posts, and none of the sign lines above names a stand to go with it.

65 inch signs and 6 foot stands on the production's own truck

Three sizes on this page set the truck for a work zone: the 48 inch faces at 65 by 65 inches overall, S-2131 at 72 by 36, and the C-0546 stands, 6 feet tall on 5 foot feet. Read them out on the call about truck size that EC's pick-up policy encourages. Returns use the same dock and the same 4:30 PM close as pick-ups, Monday through Friday, so plan the strike of a street around it.
