Pay phones for rent: wall, counter and pedestal

Wall-mount and countertop pay phones

The wall-mount pay phones in the EC Props stock book come in two looks, period and black touchtone. The stock book lists the period phones, P-0016a in touchtone and P-0016B in rotary, at 9 inches wide, 5 deep and 23 tall, a height it gives as "including sign".

The black touchtone wall phones are P-0054a, which has orange dialing instructions on the upper left of its face, P-0054b, which has a blue volume control in the same spot, and P-0054c, which measures 8 by 6 by 21 inches. Together those 3 lines hold 4 phones, and the book adds P-0054z, a wall mount bracket for the P-0054 pay phone, 7 inches wide by 20 tall.

P-0046 is the countertop pay phone, black and touchtone, 8 inches wide, 9 deep and 10 tall. S-1687 is a wall-mount shelf for a pay phone, in white wood, 32 by 13 by 10 inches. Where a table row on this page shows no size, ask the front office.

Pay phone pedestals and the wood wall enclosure

The metal pay phone pedestals in the EC Props stock book are freestanding and each comes with a pay phone: P-0107A in the newer style, and P-0107b, P-0107c and P-0107d in the older style.

Among the older-style pedestals, P-0107b, of which EC Props lists 2, has a dual locking mechanism, and P-0107d has a box 14 inches wide and 9 deep. The P-0107c line ends mid-word at "hanging telephone book hol...", a feature the front office can describe in full. The stock book gives the box on the newer-style P-0107A as 14 by 9 by 31 inches.

P-0107g is a gold pay phone on a white pedestal, with a phone box of 14 by 9 by 29 inches and a base 21 inches across.

In wood, P-0193a is a freestanding pay phone pedestal 70 inches tall overall, and P-0193B is a wall-mount pay phone enclosure that comes without a phone. The pedestal's box and the enclosure have the same measurements in the stock book, 16 by 11 by 32 inches. Whether a phone comes with the wood pedestal, P-0193a, is a question for the front office.

The EC Props stock book lists no full phone booth, so a freestanding pay phone from the book is one of these pedestals. Dressing the street around a pay phone draws on other categories, such as bus shelters and street lights.

Phone signs for the pay phone corner

Of the 8 phone sign lines in the table below, 4 carry the names Bell System, Bell Atlantic or New York Telephone, as the book gives them. A search of the stock book from the home page turns up phone signs that sit on no category page, such as S-0334 and S-0335, period two-sided porcelain enamel signs reading Public Telephone Bell System and Telephone Bell System, and S-2293, a second lighted Phone sign, this one with a slide-out mounting plate.

The faces read Public Telephone with Bell System on S-2339 and S-2340, Bell Atlantic on S-1709, New York Telephone on S-1710, Telephone on S-0053, and Phone on S-0336, S-1711 and S-1027; the book lists S-0336 and S-1027 as two-sided.

S-1027, the one lighted line of the 8, is a box 24 inches wide, 7 deep and 19 tall. One sentence from the EC Props rental policies applies to that sign as much as to the phones, pedestals, bracket, shelf, enclosure and other signs on this page: "All items are rented on an as-is basis, without an electrical plug, which makes the items non-operational at time of pick-up."

Rotary or touchtone, older style or newer

The EC Props stock book gives no years for its pay phones. The words it uses are "period" on P-0016a and P-0016B, "older style" on P-0107b, P-0107c and P-0107d, and "newer style" on P-0107A.

Among the pay phones, rotary appears on P-0016B; every other pay phone whose line names a dial type is touchtone. For a scene that needs a rotary phone on a pedestal, ask the front office.
